His research focus is the physics of thin films and heterostructures of functional materials. He received his PhD at the Technical University of Darmstadt based on research on high Tc-superconductor insulator superlattices. Funded by a European Union mobility &nbsp;grant he was postdoc at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He joined University of Mainz as a scientist and is now permanent researcher and responsible for the practical physics education of medicine students. His research activities encompass superconducting, ferroelectric, thermoelectric, solar cell and magnetic materials with a recent focus on applications of magnetic thin film heterostructures.
