Gerhard Jakob

Professor of physics
Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, Germany

Gerhard Jakob is professor of physics at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz working in the experimental condensed matter group of the institute of physics. His research focus is the physics of thin films and heterostructures of functional materials. He received his PhD at the Technical University of Darmstadt based on research on high Tc-superconductor insulator superlattices. Funded by a European Union mobility  grant he was postdoc at the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He joined University of Mainz as a scientist and is now permanent researcher and responsible for the practical physics education of medicine students. His research activities encompass superconducting, ferroelectric, thermoelectric, solar cell and magnetic materials with a recent focus on applications of magnetic thin film heterostructures. He has published more than 230 papers with a current h-index of 34.
